park , San Francisco - In my most recent game stories I have always stated that
the jury was out on the San Fransisco 49ers. Are they pretenders or
contenders ? This game against the Carolina Panthers was the definitive answer
to that question. Unfortunately it is obvious now that they are
pretenders !

The
Carolina Panther's offense under the direction of Cam Newton in the first half
stunk !The 49ers weren't able to capitalize on this ! In three visits to the
red zone the Niner offense could only muster 9 points on three Phil Dawson
field goals. The Panther defense pounded Colin Kaepernick and the MIA Niner
offense. Receiver Mario Maningham was activated for this game but it had no
real impact !

In
the first half , as usual the 49er defense did their job well. Eventually
Carolina scored a touchdown on a 27 yard run on a DeAngelo Williams run in the
second quarter. All the toil on the offense for the Niners , that only produced
9 points was all for naught, eclipsed by one of the few positive efforts by the
Panther offense. While the 49er defense was shutting down Cam Newton their
offense couldn't do enough. Going into the locker room at the half the NIners
led the game 9-7 despite dominating the offensive statistics !
The
Niner offense in the second half was a exercise in total futility ! Kaepernick
had very little time to hit his receivers. The game plan had called for mostly
running plays for obvious reasons. With a depleted receiver corp Kaepernick
found it difficult to find open receivers. As a result of this he spent much
time being chased around the backfield by a very aggressive Panther defensive
front line ! They were knocking Niner players right out of the game.

Both
teams delivered bone crushing hits. When the chips were down the 49er offense
didn't have the playmakers to win the game ! Safety Eric Reid took a big hit
and was sent to the locker room , Vernon Davis too ! The front seven of the
Panthers pushed the Niner O line around ! The one bright spot on the offense
was Frank Gore who rushed for 82 yards on 16 carries. Kaepernick doesn't have
the offensive chops right now to pull out a tough game !

Coming
into the game the Niners were riding a five game winning streak against no name
teams. They can't cut the mustard against any good teams ! The Carolina
Panthers like the 49ers have a shot at making it to the post season and just
like the 49ers they won't go far ! The Niners are the " paper tigers
" of the NFL right now !

In
the second half the 49ers had few opportunities to move on offense. when they
had a small window of opportunity their receivers couldn't hold on to the ball.
Example , Vance McDonald's drop of a perfect Kaepernick pass in the third
quarter. It would have been a big yardage play but the rookie's head was still
back in college and he dropped it. Anquan Boldin , Mario Manningham , must have
been out to lunch !
The
Niner offense was 2-13 on third down conversions , gained only 2.1 yards per
pass play and only 151 total yards. Kaepernick was not ready for prime time and
was sacked six times. What kind of game plan had Greg Roman cooked up ? What
happened to the genius coaching of last year ? They swaggered into the 2013 season
without good reason. From the start the 49er organization knew that they were
two wide receivers down, yet nothing was done to shore up this deficiency !
So
as a result of the lack of receivers the relatively inexperienced Colin
Kaepernick is being left hanging out to dry in the backfield ! Cancel out on
any Super Bowl plans for the San Francisco 49ers. The 2014 version of the team
just might be a bust in the new Levi stadium. This would certainly put a damper
on all the celebrations that are planned by the City of Santa Clara and the
49er organization ! This is what the new season ticket holders are going to be
paying for in 2014.
This
article article is dedicated to the NFL owners and commissioner Goodell who are
collectively trying to ruin the game for the fans by putting a sloppy product
on the field ! Coach Harbaugh will be hard pressed to come up lots of snappy
one liners after this last game disaster ! The story should go that Candlestick
park was torn down because of the 2013 season !
