Vs.
By Scary Barry Rodriguez October 28, 2013
Wembley Stadium, London , ENG - 83, 559 English fans were treated to a good old soccer hooligan style bashing of the Jacksonville Jaguars by the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners took time off from their sight seeing to reduce the Jaguars to pussycats ! Even though Jacksonville is considered the home team they didn't appear to feel right at home !
Returning to their very successful run first offense, the 49ers had two long scoring drives in the first quarter. Frank Gore scored on a 19 yard run to cap off a 8 play 76 yard drive and the Colin Kaepernick scored from 12 yards out to cap off a 8 play 80 yard drive. Honorable mention to FB Bruce Miller for a 43 yard catch on the first drive. No mention of the Jaguars is made for a good reason. They were only witnesses at this point in the game, not participants.
The second quarter was more of the same. The Niners scored two more touchdowns. One by Vernon Davis on a 2yard pass from Kaepernick. Then Kaepernick scored on a 9 yard run. One can presume that Greg Roman has unlocked the shackles on Kaepernick's feet for the duration of the season. Until Josh Scobee's 38 yard field goal, it appeared that the game was a practice session for the San Francisco 49ers. The halftime score was 28-3.
The Scary one apologizes to the fans for his not being able to wring out more drama from this one sided contest. The Jacksonville Jaguars are the worst team in the NFL and the Niners did just what was expected. The second half was the same as the first . The Niners continued to run , their offensive line pushing the Jaguars around. In the third quarter Kyle Williams returned a punt 47 yards , followed by a 41 yard run by Kendall Hunter. To cap off the short drive, Gore ran 2 yards for another score. Chad Henne managed to pass 29 yards to Mike Brown for the Jaguars only touchdown of the game. At the end of the third quarter the score was 35-10.
The fourth quarter brought a merciful ending to what was unpleasant for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Recently activated linebacker Dan Skuta picked up a fumble and returned it 47 yards for the last Niner touchdown. This put the score at 42-10. The 49ers won their fifth straight game . They seemed to have righted the offensive side of things. It shouldn't have been so difficult ! If all your wide receivers are out due to injuries , Anquan Boldin is double covered and only Vernon Davis is fast enough to beat press coverage , shouldn't the 49er brain trust let Frank Gore and Kaepernick run sooner !
Miracles of miracles , the NIners actually let backup quarterback Colt McCoy get in some reps in the fourth quarter ! This game proved nothing to me. Both the Seahawks and the 49ers have weak schedules. As recent upsets have shown, the NFC west is strongest division in the NFL. If the Niners can't beat the Seahawks then they are just pretenders. If the 49er coaching staff is so astute then they should already have the blue print for going to the Super Bowl.
Colin Kaepernick looked comfortable again . The defense is good enough if the offense can score. When the wide receivers Mario Manningham and Michael Crabtree return from the injured list the situation can only get better. Meanwhile the San Francisco 49ers can just keep beating the inferior teams. Maybe Jacksonville shouldn't feel as bad losing in front of an English audience that for the most part didn't have a clue about what was happening in the game. All is well when Kaepernick gets to kiss his bicep a few times !
