Candlestick point, San Francisco - On a breezy San Francisco night the San Francisco 49ers laid down the cold hard facts to the Chicago Bears. In a Monday night clash billed as " the battle of the backups " Niner backup QB Colin Kaepernick turned the contest into a" beat down by the bay"!  Kaepernick came out firing, directing the Niners on a drive which led to a David Akers field goal from 32 yards out. This drive included a 57 yard over the shoulder pass to Kyle Williams. Kaepernick was sharp from the get go !

On the defense the 49ers hounded Chicago QB Jason Campbell on every play. In their last game against St. Louis Rams the pass rush was MIA ! This game was a stroll for the Niner secondary with Aldon Smith and the front line racking up 6 sacks. The great Chicago Bears defense was over shadowed by the reality of the superior defense of the 49ers. Patrick Willis and Novarro Bowman introduced the Bear's receivers and runners to Niner hit parade !

In the first half the Niner defense shut down Chicago while putting 20 points up on the scoreboard. Kaepernick hit Vernon Davis in the end zone from three yards out and in the second quarter Kendall Hunter ran the ball in from 14 yards out for another Niner touchdown. David Akers added a 37 yard field yard to cap the first half scoring. The Chicago Bears were almost non existent in the game up until this point in the games. The few Bear fans in attendance had nothing to cheer about.

In the second half of the game the 49ers just concentrated on running time off the game clock. For all intents and purposes the game was put to rest in the 3rd quarter when Michael Crabtree collected a 10 yard from Kaepernick in the left corner of the end zone for another Niner touchdown. This put the game score at 27-0 in favor of San Francisco. Chicago did manage one touchdown when Jason Campbell hit Brandon Marshall in the end zone from 13 yards out. Given the defensive pressure put on Chicago by the 49er defense the lone Bear touchdown was a minor miracle.

In the final quarter the Niners scored on another David Akers field goal from 32 yards out and a safety for two more points . This was recorded by Ray McDonald. The second half of the game was just one long futile struggle for Chicago. The 49er defense just swarmed all over the Bear offensive line and collapsed the pocket around a shell shocked Jason Campbell. It was a complete rout of a playoff bound team. The Niners put up 30 points against the proud Chicago Bear defense !

This was one of the best games the 49ers have played in the last two years. Colin Kaepernick certainly didn't play like a backup , going 16 for 23, 243 yards and two touchdowns. Most importantly Kaepernick didn't commit any turnovers.Frank Gore gained 73 yards on the ground. The defensive unit lived up to its bad ass reputation. Aldon Smith was virtually unstoppable as a pass rusher with 5 and a half sacks. Tarrell Brown and Dashon Goldson had interceptions. This unit limited Kevin Hester and Brandon Marshall to only five receptions combined ! Where it counts , in the trenches , the San Francisco 49ers totally dominated.

The unfortunate aspect of this game as distinct from all the good vibes was the revival of the " quarterback controversy ". Every season Alex Smith has been dogged by nagging questions about his being the right man for the job. The Scary one cautions all the fans to remember one game doesn't make a starting quarterback. Kaepernick exceeded all expectations with his game performance but crowning him the next heir apparent is a bit premature !

Note : This article is dedicated to the San Francisco 49er's coaching staff. They got it dead right with their game plan ! It was a fan fest from start to finish !
