This last Saturday against my better judgement I watched the Manny Pacquiao versus Timothy Bradley fight on pay per view. The stench of that fight is still with me two days later. The Top Rank production is just another example why the boxing game is considered corrupt. Somehow after Pacquiao dominated the fight he loses in a split decision. Timothy Bradley is a good young fighter but he did not win the fight. Not by a long shot !
From the start of the broadcast live from the MGM grand hotel in Las Vegas , Nevada , the Scary one was getting the bad karma vibe. The commentators kept on mentioning that Manny was not working out just content to watch the Miami Heat - Boston Celtics NBA finals. He didn't seem to have a care in the world. Meanwhile they were hyping up Timothy Bradley his opponent. Max Kellerman was not winning any Emmys for HBO. There was just something wrong about the whole production.
The undercard fights were for the most part a disaster ! Then it was a long wait for the fight to begin. Listening to Max Kellerman drone on about how poor Timothy Bradley was ready to go but had to wait for the bad guy Manny Pacquiao to finally show up for the fight was a drag. In hindsight Pacquiao was in no hurry because the fix was in. The pre fight interview with him emphasized his new found committment to religion. It was an obvious setup to question his focus on the fight. Bradley said nothing except that he would wait however long it would take.
During the fight Pacquiao was the aggressor and Bradley was content to take some big shots and dance around. Nothing Bradley hit Manny with had any affect . Round after round Pacquiao had to follow Bradley until he could land some powerful straight lefts. You don't win boxing championships by just staying on your feet. It seemed to me that Bradley was very confident without backing it up with any real action.
Then the decision came and the booing began. I thought about some of the comments that trainer Emanuel Steward made about the fight judges. Steward knew that something was rotten in Denmark but could only give subtle hints about it. The joke was on the paying fans. The promoters pay everyone from the referee to the judges so anything can happen and it did ! Bob Arum did a bad acting job of being surprised by the questionable decision by the judges.
Manny accepted the corruption in good humor and grace during the postfight interviews. The fighters are really just pawns in the big gambling game played by the money men. It was just a big sham to setup a rematch. Pacquiao is now a politician in his home country and I'm sure it was no surprise to him that a substitute for Floyd Mayweather had to be found. Everyone has to make their money !
Next time I'll just stick with watching WWE action on cable. Its more entertaining and everyone knows that the good guys and bad guys are only acting. The boxing game is a straight out rip off ! The Scary one doesn't enjoy getting slapped in the face by a scam ! I really can't afford giving my money away ! This sucker is calling it quits ! Unfortunately all the professional sports are influenced by the big gambling interests. If you don't believe it I have the Golden Gate bridge to sell to you !
Note : This article is dedicated to honest boxing promoters. Oops ! I can't find any ! So lets hear it for Men and Women of the Armed forces who have experienced combat for this country !
