Yesterday , Peyton Manning released a statement indicating that he had chosen the Denver Broncos over the San Francisco 49ers in the " broken neck " sweepstakes . Meanwhile , Alex Smith , the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL ( He gets zero respect ! ) is left to ponder over his suedo buddy, coach Jim Harbaugh. When Jimbo pats you on the back and says " you are my quarterback ! " he is dreaming of someone else. Oh , what a tangled web the pursuit of a superbowl team is !
The Scary one thinks good old boy Peyton went for the bucks in Denver not another ring. The Broncos aren't as talented as the 49ers . Besides , casting Tim Tebow aside could lead to problems with the evangelicals and might even lead to flash floods ! Never scorn the big guy ! Alex Smith needs to take the 3 year contract with the Niners , win the big one and have the " young genius " Jed York eat humble pie ! Just look at the Dallas Cowboys . Owner Jerry Jones spent 2 billion on a mega- stadium and the team is a bust. It would be justice if the Niner's new stadium was finished , Alex Smith moved on and then the team returned to its former losing form !
One more big hit and Manning's career goes up in smoke ! He should be selling cars just like John Elway. The Niner ownership is doing its best to bestow bad karma on the team. I have visions of Santa Clara , with its gleaming used car lots , mini-shopping malls , motel chains and soon to be pissed off tax payers ! The team thinking that they are leaving the bush league politicians like Gavin Newsom and Ed Lee behind ! Think again ! Peyton played the Niners to suck the Broncos into giving him a big contract to play in brokeneck mountain !
Alex Smith has persevered through the coaching tenures of Mike Nolan and " Iron Mike " Singletary. He is tough enough to take the contract and realize that all players are just commodities to be used by steely eyed billionaires. They aren't starstruck just greedy ! So its just another day in annals of the NFL. Tune in this upcoming season folks ! Lets see if Jim Harbaugh can turn Randy Moss into a choir boy and convince Alex Smith that the Peyton affair was just a passing flirtation ! Tim Tebow ! Forgive John Elway for he knows not what he has done !
