This past Sunday the New York Giants prevailed over the punch less New England Patriots 21-17 in a lackluster football game. The entire presentation of this particular Superbowl confirmed My recent suspicions that the National Football League is hellbent on ensuring that there is no spontaneity involved in anything that they control. The halftime show featured an out of touch Madonna . She didn't rock or roll. She was in, ten years ago. The set dwarfed her tiny figure as she gave a less than inspired performance. It was just like the game itself a less than inspired performance.
Earlier in the week the Head of Homeland Security advised everyone that they were in control. Evidently the NFL also played it safe. Everything was mediocre , the commercials , the halftime show and the play on the field. NFL Commissioner
( Kommissar ) Roger Goodell talked about eliminating the Pro Bowl before Sunday's game. Its all about control. The NFL is killing the sport by micro managing everything. They have gone too far in making everything a PG experience !
As part of the media I have been directly affected by all the increased control and the bogus NFL network. If the players on the field display too much spirit it leads to a fine, if they wear the wrong brand of a jockstrap they get fined and only politically correct statements are allowed. The result of all this is a less than great product. To be honest with you the Scary one fell asleep during the game. It was a drag ! The big guys got the match they wanted ! The big market team the New York Giants , with the self proclaimed elite quarterback Eli Manning against the new matinee idol Tom Brady and the genius Patriots coach Bill Belichick . It didn't matter the game sucked !
The Patriots defense was predictably porous and the Giants just played their normal game. Maybe Tom Brady suffers from having too much success too soon because he just didn't have the mojo ! His receivers developed a severe case of butter fingers in the second half. The vaunted Wes Welker, Aaron Hernandez , Deion Branch and the
6 foot 6 decoy Rob Gronkowski stunk up the Lucas Oil stadium in the fourth quarter. The San Francisco 49ers provided more of a contest for New York than the over matched Patriots. The game couldn't match the marketing hype !
I don't put the blame on the city of Indianapolis. With all the NFL rules and Homeland Security control working the Superbowl has become a grind. This comes across as an across the board uptight vibe on the part of the commentators , players and officials. The money is so big that the big guys in the NFL are trying to dictate how everything goes down. The Kommisar Roger Goodell is clueless about what the fans want ! Hey Roger ! The fans want to be entertained ! Where was the rock and roll ? Where was the sizzle ? The puppet masters are intent on dominating the world of Sports and in the process killing the joy for the fans.
If the NFL wanted to suck all evidence of personality out of the Superbowl then they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Go ahead Roger Goodell eliminate the Pro Bowl. Eliminate the fun for want of more millions. Eliminate spontaneity in the game ! While the NFL is bloated with television revenue the rest of us have been priced out of consideration. There has been no recession for the luxury box folks but they aren't the whole story. The television watching 99 % , that buys cornflakes and drinks beer are what keeps the show afloat. Don't forget that !
