BOUNTIES, PEYTON MANNING AND OTHER STORY HYPES

Every week another National Football League scandal breaks out for the wolfpack press corp to hype. Over a week ago the New Orleans " bountygate " story came out involving their defensive coordinator Greg Williams. Williams allegedly organizrd a bounty for knocking opposing players out or out of the game , with as many as 27 players participating. This included the Superbowl winning 2009 season. Now a Washington Redskin assistant coach is alleging that when Williams was at Washington from 2004-07 , he had organized the same bounty system.
Some ex players and coaches are foaming at the mouth , wanting to lynch Greg Williams. The Media has blown this story up to a tsnamui level ! Hold it right there folks ! Professional football by its very nature is violent. Big hits by the defense are part of the game and so are the injuries caused by the hits. Today's players are bigger , stronger and faster. The recent rules changes have given an unfair advantage to the offense. Now it seems that if a defensive player even gets close to a quarterback he might get flagged for " roughing the passer " and some of the " pass interference " calls come after phantom moves ! I buy the line that players assume the risk when they get on the field. The NFL only gets concerned about things like concussions after some players litigate. This bounty story doesn't merit CNN attention.
The next supernova story concerns Peyton Manning who was released by the Indianapolis Colts on March the 7th. Good old Peyton had three neck surgeries and that 28 million bonus was hanging around the Colt's neck like an albatross ! So with tearful regret Colt's owner Jim Irsay cut the face of the franchise loose ! Peyton was crying at the press conference podium and it was indeed high drama. A public divorce ! This move surprised nobody including good old Peyton. The speculation about where Manning will go is rampant ! Its only about money nothing else. Every NFL player is just a piece of meat. Who will take a chance on Peyton taking them to the Superbowl dance ? Start Manning and he will run the entire offense just like in Indianapolis. He gets put down again and there goes the offense in smoke ! Because he keeps everything in his head ! Joe Montana , Steve Young, Brett Farve and John Elway , they all wanted to keep on playing. So Peyton is rolling the dice and its on him ! This story shouldn't have legs !
Some NFL has beens , Terrell Owens and now Randy Moss are trying to get back in the game. T.O has been reduced to playing arena football and now Randy Moss, age 35 is being shopped to the San Francisco 49ers and other teams. These guys are yesterday's news . They elevated whining to an art form ! Wheres the beef ? The real story should be about who is going to pay for all the expensive seating in the 2 billion dollar Dallas Cowboy stadium. A losing team is not a big draw Mr. Jerry Jones !
Unfortunately for the press Barry Bonds never played in the NFL , otherwise some enterprising Sport's writers would be making millions on expose books ! Maybe NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is a cross dresser or Hines Ward was released by the Steelers because of the Tea Party. Its all speculation anyway. Nobody really has the inside scoop or the creativity to put out real stories.
Note: I would like to dedicate this article to former Chicago Bear coach Mike Dika. He was a macho caveman who ruled with iron fist . This produced good copy ! Excuse me I almost left out " Iron " Mike Singletary, that pants dropping , shades wearing , used car salesman ! He put the San Francisco 49ers on the World comedy map ! I'm going to start a special Scary Barry " Hall of Clowns " to honor some of the special people involved with Sports. Don't stay up late waiting for this to happen !
