NY GIANTS 20-17 IN OT.

( San Francisco , Candlestick Park ) - Under dark overcast skies the San Francisco 49ers played the eastcoast bias New York Giants. The police presence resembled a murder scene in Juarez , Mexico. Security was tight and entrance to the stadium was slow. It rained throughout the game. The Niner defense lived up to expectations but the offense faltered. Rookie head coach Jim Harbaugh made some obvious mistakes.
There was the usual pomp and ceremony associated with a NFC championship game before the teams got down to business. The first half was a low scoring affair with the Giants taking a 10-7 lead into the locker room. The Niners had scored on a Alex Smith pass to Vernon Davis. It was a slogfest up to this point. The Niner defense had held the elite Eli Manning in check but the offense hadn't been able to capitalize on it. Country star Brad Paisely entertained the crowd at the half. This had the Scary one scratching his head. In the left coast only the Tea party members , yearning for a return to yesterday listen to C&W music.
The second half was a tough battle in which both the Giants and Niners only managed a touchdown and a field goal apiece. The 49er defense held up but again the offense didn't produce enough to prevent an OT period. Alex Smith didn't turn the ball over but many of his throws were ankle high. Besides Vernon Davis , the Niner receiving corp was MIA. Frank Gore did his part including catching a few passes but it wasn't enough.
The Niners had their opportunities in the OT period but gave it up to New York. For some inexplicible reason the Niner coaching staff allowed rookie Kyle William to go back for another punt return after already costing a touchdown in the fourth quarter. They were only a fair catch away from having a shot at winning the game. Williams doing the return job in place of Ted Ginn Jr. , was an adventure every time he caught a punt or kick.
All in all though, the San Francisco 49ers shouldn't be crying a river. Nobody expected them to even reach 8-8 for the season. Coach Harbaugh has made the Niners a part of the NFL championship conversation again. It was a great season ! Everyone including Mayor Ed Lee ( who is letting them go to Santa Clara ! ) was going along for the ride. The violence problem at the stadium has been over hyped by the media. Some of the folks from New Orleans endured some minor grief but the the pot smokers was what really upset the god fearing Saint's fans. The NFL and the rich corporate types will breathe easy when all the working class folks will get the bums rush when the Niners play in Santa Clara. So enjoy it while you can !
Just a little advice for the next season : Send Michael Crabtree packing , don't book a C&W group for half time entertainment and send the politicians to the Opera season opening so they can kiss billionaire butts instead of stinking up the Stick !
