HARBAUGH NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME

NINERS LOSE TO DALLAS IN OT 27-24

( SAN FRANCISCO ) - The sun was shining over Candlestick park , T-shirt weather as the San Francisco Forty Niners took on their long time rivals the Dallas Cowboys. It was a great game except for the final score. For some reason there was an abundance of Dallas fans strutting around like kings. Maybe hundreds of season ticket holders took the day off ! Out in the crowd the Scary one was surrounded by Cowboy fans ! This was a bad omen.

In the first half the Niner defense held down the potent Cowboy defense. They weren't getting running yards and Tony Romo was passing like a junior college walk on. San Francisco once again relied on an ultra conservative offensive attack. Despite this San Francisco scored two touchdowns. The only blemish for QB Alex Smith was an interception by Dallas deep in San Francisco territory. This set up the only Dallas score of the first half. The score at the half should have been 14-0 instead of 14-7.

At the half their was real rock and roll played by a group wearing ridiculous wigs. So the entertainment was definitely better  for this game ! It was real hot out on the field and both teams suffered in the heat. The second half had the Dallas defense toiling in the heat for most of the third quarter. Yet the Niners conservative offense didn't take advantage of this  situation on offense. Gradually the San Francisco defense gave way allowing the game to be tied at 14-14. Even with Romo out of the game backup

Jon Kitna moved the ball against a tired 49er defense.

There was no mystery about what Dallas was doing ! It was a pass to Miles Austin or on tough third down situations, Jason Witten their big tight end. There was no real pass rush for the Niners. A high school quarterback would have had ample time to pass. The Niner corners couldn't handle Witten and Austin
had the corners falling down. Meanwhile the 49er offense was doing a rewind of the last game throwing one yard passes. The average pass yardage for the game on Niner catches was 5.5 yards. Yet the Niners did go ahead 21-14 in the fourth quarter and added a

David Aker's field goal to make the score 21-14.

This is where the amateur coaching of Jim Harbaugh came into play ! With over eleven minutes to go in the game and the 49ers on the Dallas 37 yard line and a fourth and one situation the Niners went for a David Aker's field goal and converted. A 15 yard penalty was called on the Dallas defense after the kick that would have given the Niners a first down ! Harbaugh elected to just take the three points and leave it up to the defense to hold the Cowboys !

The result was predictable. The Niner defense didn't hold allowing Romo, who was back in the game to throw a touchdown to put the score at 24-21 with plenty of time left on the game clock. Again the conservative 49er offense couldn't move the ball. Lets not forget the six quarterback sacks that Alex Smith suffered. It was disgusting ! With time running out Dallas went on one last drive. It became apparent that the Cowboys didn't intend to go for a win in regulation but settled for a game tying field goal ! They were so confident that their defense could shut down the low intensity Niner offense that they deliberately ran the ball in Niner territory to set up a field goal !

What happened in the overtime period was no surprise. The Niner offense got the ball first and went nowhere . The 49er defense was again asked to do too much. On the first play from scrimmage for the Dallas offense, Romo threw to backup receiver Jesse Holley , who was wide open for a 77 yard gain. Donte Whitner who was covering him was not even within twenty yards of Holley when he caught the pass ! Cowboy kicker Dan Bailey iced the game for Dallas with a 19 yard field goal and spoiled my afternoon !

So for the second week in a row Jim Harbaugh is doing a Mike Singletary rewind ! In his post game interview both he and Alex Smith seemed very composed. With the fans sweating out in the seats the Niners elected to play just to develop the team not win ! Tight end Vernon Davis was barely involved in the offense and at one point used to block big Dallas defenders. Davis is a match up problem for any NFL corner but is almost off the radar screen for the Niner offensive scheme.

For fans its extremely frustrating to watch their team kick their opponents butts for three quarters only to have coach Harbaugh decide that Alex Smith can't deliver a touchdown from deep in Dallas Cowboy territory ! Thats what the game was reduced to ! The defense played hard but was stuck in the trenches ! With their eyes firmly set on relocating to Santa Clara the Niner organization is satisfied with a holding pattern so coach Harbaugh engaged in on the job training is no big deal !

According to the latest news an associated business is buying Great America to facilitate the new stadium project ! If the Yorks get their way, affluent ticket holders from the Silicon valley can have the kiddies play at Great America while their Blue Tooth, texting , laptop using, distracted parents make like their watching an NFL game. It will be a mega entertainment bonanza for all the deprived rich ! The young geniuses in the San Francisco Forty Niner organization have already crunched the numbers. It will be the second coming of the gold rush for the carpetbaggers ! San Francisco will need another team because what will go down in Santa Clara will never represent the bay area ! So lets play out the string !
