NFL LOCKOUT OVER !

By Scary Barry Rodriguez          July 26, 2011

( San Francisco ) - Yesterday NFL comissioner

Roger Goodell and NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith held a press conference and announced that the four month lockout had ended. The new agreement is for a period of ten years and will guarantee uninterrupted play for all the football deprived fans out there.

Wow ! Forget the debt crisis President Obama ! Lets play football again ! The Scary one had developed viewer fatigue watching all the coverage of the NFL labor negotiations on cable television. For all parties concerned the end to the lockout was good news. Something about the whole deal bugs me ! The NFL is a monopoly and now with the ten year agreement this monster will go unchallenged.

The NFL is too big to listen to what the fans want and too big to accomodate an independent press. Flush with television revenue the NFL's economy is bigger than some small countries. Everytime I watch coverage of the NFL I can observe the commentators overtly making an effort not to say anything that would upset the big business status quo.

Now that the deal is done maybe the suits in the luxury boxes should consider changing the frequency of commercials shown during the game broadcasts. If your watching on the tube there is no flow anymore. In the middle of a long drive with tension riding high, oops , here comes the attention busting commercial time out !

Face it the NFL is the biggest sport's institution on the planet . It can do no wrong ! Its as American as the IRS ! The lack of autonomy will be the undoing of the big payday. There is the danger that NFL football will become like soccer, boring. Too much micro managing by the suits will drain the life blood out of the game. Don't hit too hard guys ! Don't knock the owners ! Don't knock the league ! Let me change the channel to the WWE. Yea, I know the matches are rigged but at least its up front .
