Candlestick point, San Francisco - The young smack talking Seattle Seahawks led by rookie QB Russell Wilson ventured into the Bay area on thursday night. If fans were expecting the Niners to rebound from their last losing effort with a display of offensive fireworks then they were undoubtedly disappointed. The 13-6 victory for San Francisco was a contest of true grit ! One good defensive unit slugging it out with another.

From the very start of the game the Seahawk defensive secondary was holding 49er receivers and making contact beyond the five yard limit. Once again the 49er offensive game plan was transparent to their opponent. The entire first half scoring consisted of two field goals by Seattle and one for the 49ers . The Niner defense held. RB Frank Gore almost broke out. There was much unneccesary pushing and shoving after almost every play. The young Seahawk players seemed intent on proving they could out muscle the Niners on both sides of the ball. The Niners went to the locker room at the half trailing Seattle 6-3.

The second half of the game brought more of the same slogging and with very little to show for the effort. With 4:29 on the third quarter game clock the Niners scored their first touchdown in two games when Alex Smith hit TE Delanie Walker for a 12 yard touchdown. This put the pressure on the Seahawks to respond. The stout Niner defense shut Seattle's offense down with the aide of the Seahawk receivers who displayed a penchant for dropping easy catches. Rookie QB Russell Wilson spent most of the second half just trying to stay alive.

Any success the 49er offense had in the second half was the result of RB Frank Gore , who averaged over eight yards a carry. Gore's 131 yards of rushing provided the power to move the chains and make first downs. His longest run was one of 37 yards and he also caught 5 passes for 51 yards. Alex Smith was intercepted once and was conservative for the rest of the game in his deciscion making. Coach Jim Harbaugh was so fired up the Scary one thought the game officials would eventually eject him. He was wild eyed , loudly yelling and came out on the field more than once !

San Francisco held on in the fourth quarter. David Akers booted his second field goal of the game from 28 yards out to put the score at 13-6 . The Seahawks failed to score in the fourth quarter. Until the final seconds of the game the issue was in doubt. When it counted the most the Niner defense put an end the possibility of any Seattle comeback by sacking and then causing a safety thanks to Aldon Smith. In all the Special teams came through with no miscues . David Akers and punter Andy Lee supported the win. Ted Ginn Jr. had a 41 yard punt return in the fourth quarter. Seattle never was allowed to break out on any kick returns. It was a hard hitting and hard fought victory.
