Reliant Stadium, Houston, TX - Even ex Presidents George H. Bush and George H.W. Bush couldn't help the hapless Houston Texans. The Oakland Raiders , with backup quarterback , rookie Matt McGloin playing in place of Terrelle Pryor had the right to expect a tougher game against the Houston Texans. The Texans are in a free fall mode , stuck in the mysterious Bermuda triangle of the NFL. The Raiders turned in a total team victory .

In the first quarter Nick Roach intercepted a Case Keenum pass providing a short field for the Raider offense. It didn't take long for McGloin , in his first NFL start to deliver. A 5 yard pass to Denarius Moore for a touchdown rocked Houston back on its heels. The Raider defense again provided a short field to the offense when Charles Woodson stripped the ball from a Texan receiver and Phillip Adams recovered it. McGloin then hit Rod Streater with a 16 yard strike for another Oakland touchdown ! When the smoke cleared Houston found themselves down 14-0 .

One quarter does not make a whole game and the Texans proved it in the second quarter. Case Keenaum hit Garrett Graham with a 24 yard touchdown pass , Randy Bullock booted a 51 yard field goal and Keyshawn Martin burned the Raider special team with a 87 yard punt return for another Houston touchdown. The Raider offense took the second quarter off and trailed at the half to the Texans 17-14.

In the third quarter the Oakland Raider defense stiffened up. Matt McGloin threw for his third touchdown to Mychal Rivera from 26 yards out. Then still in the third quarter the Raider offense dug into the playbook with spectacular results. Rashad Jennings was put under center in a wildcat formation , took the direct snap and burst through the Houston Texan defense for 82 yards and another Oakland touchdown. With the score at 28-17 the Raiders temporarily were in the drivers seat if the defense could hold !

In the fourth quarter the Raider offense couldn't produce but they didn't turn the ball over ! The Houston Texans managed to score six points on two Randy Bullock field goals but it wasn't enough. The final score was Oakland 28 , Houston 23 . The Raider defense provided stops when it counted . Rookie Matt McGloin in his first start under center was aided by the standout play of Rashad Jennings and receivers that actually made the catches instead of posing. The offense was three for three in the red zone. McGloin went 18/32 for 197 yards , 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Rashad Jennings ran for 150 yards on 22 carries , including the 82 yard touchdown run. Both Rod Streator, 6 receptions for 84 yards and one TD and Mychal Rivera, 5 receptions for 54 yards and one TD, were consistent enough to provide balance for the offense.

The offensive statistics for the Houston Texans were impressive. Yet statistics don't accurate portray the reality of football. For example two of the Texan receivers had good numbers. Garrett Graham had 7 receptions for 136 yards and a TD and Andre Johnson had 10 receptions for 116 yards. B.Tate had 84 yards rushing on 19 carries against the Raider defense. The bottom line is that the Oakland defense stopped them when it counted !

Already the media is suggesting that there might be a quarterback controversy in the Oakland Raider camp. Matt McGloin performed exceptionally well but it was only one game ! This is hardly a recipe for a change in the starting quarterback position. There could be a controversy only if Terrelle Pryor becomes injury prone. The Scary one believes it is not controversial to state the obvious ! Rashad Jennings deserves to be the starting running back for the rest of the season regardless of any Darren McFadden injury recovery ! The lazy thinkers out there in sports land have severely under estimated his abilities. Its always easy for the media folks to follow the party line ! The networks or teams aren't paying me so I don't have this problem. Jennings is for real so just accept it ! Now the entire NFL knows it !
